Internship
From classic school internship to mandatory internship during your law studies: The State of Lower Saxony offers several opportunities to try out work routine.
School Internship
Try out work routine, gather practical experience, and be a part of the team – that’s what you can experience with us!
And you will see: It’s not boring at all! As largest employer of Lower Saxony, we offer a number of jobs. And during an internship, you can take a look behind our scenes.
The choice of profession belongs to the most important and sometimes also most difficult decisions in life. Furthermore, you can make first professional contacts with us, which may be helpful in case of a later job application.
Make direct contact with us to learn which authority offers which internships. Just call us, ask in more detail, and find out the content. In this way, you demonstrate commitment and interest, and already leave your first “personal fingerprint”.
What are you interested in? Which job could be your dream job? Just have a look at the list of jobs!
School-related year-long internship
You are looking for a school-related year-long internship because you are at a Fachoberschule [Technical College], or because you will start there soon? Then you’ve come to the right place!
In the State of Lower Saxony you can set the right course for your professional future. During a year-long internship you will get to know the job in detail. You will not only be insured in the social insurances, but you will also receive a monthly remuneration. When your internship is completed, you will receive a meaningful certificate containing your practical experience.
Administration internship
You want to complete your mandatory internship in an administration authority? Nothing is easier! The State of Lower Saxony offers you two possibilities.
In your individual internship you will get to know one authority. You are part of a group and introduce your knowledge and your abilities in the work routine. This is the best way if you already know which specialist area your heart is beating for (e.g. environment, Europe, or taxes).
Inform yourself on the websites of the State authorities, whether such an internship can be offered, or apply proactively by making contact with the HR department. The colleagues are looking forward to you!
The group internship is organized every year in the lecture-free time of the summer semester by the Ministerium für Inneres und Sport [Ministry of Internal Affairs and Sports] in cooperation with several State authorities, and gives you an insight into the wide variety of the State Administration.
In small working groups of approximately 25 persons you will get to know different authorities in the region of Hanover, and you will get an overview of tasks and legal questions in the State Administration (lectures, group work, visits).
Respectively in spring, you will find the event program - which also contains information on contents and application opportunities - on this page and on the websites of the Leibniz University Hanover and the University Osnabrück. Due to the high demand, the places will be awarded within the framework of a selection procedure. We are looking forward to your application – also online!

Voluntary service
Voluntary service is a voluntary commitment by a person for a fixed period of time ranging from a few weeks to a whole year or more.
For more than 50 years, young people have been given the opportunity to immerse themselves in social, scientific, cultural or ecological areas and to broaden their own horizons. It is not uncommon for this time to serve the maturation of personality as well as professional orientation.
More than 25 services in the country offer voluntary services. In the accompanying accordion you will find the institutions and an email address for contacting them.
